Abstract

Five species of entomophthorous fungi have been isolated from spotted alfalfa aphids collected in California. Of these, the two that appear most effective in the biological control of the aphid in California have also been found in India, Iraq, and Israel. One species has previously been described a Entomophthora coronata. The following names are proposed for the four new species described herein:

Entomophthora obscura

Entomophthora ignobilis

Entomophthora exitialis

Entomophthora virulenta
